Teacht i dTír: Voices from Ireland Park

Like the atmospheric park in which it is set, this theatre project memorializes the events surrounding "The Arrival of 1847.

Through a pastiche of events, characters, and geographies, Teacht i dTír portrays vast summations of historical and societal forces at work during "The Arrival." Its genre is experiential theatre the story is encountered in a setting directly related to its subject matter, heightening the artists and audience’s connection to the material. Its form is physical theatre. Its style is self-effacing, bold, and reflective.

The Government of Ireland and Ireland Park Foundation invites you to join us for a special commemorative service to honor the Irish Famine immigrants fleeing the Great Famine in Ireland of 1847.

Éamon Ó Cuív, T.D., Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs will represent the Irish Government. A musical tribute to the memory of the immigrants will be performed by The Toronto Choral Society (founded in Toronto in 1845) and Deb Quigley.

Representatives of Local, Provincial and Federal Government will also participate.

Please feel free to bring your own floral contribution for you to place at the memorial.

While admission to the commemoration is free, space at Ireland Park is quite limited and those interested in attending are asked to register in advance by visiting our website INTERNATIONAL IRISH FAMINE DAY GUEST REGISTRATION.
