The vision, imagination and dedication behind the project to establish an Ireland Park in Toronto is to be commended. Ireland Park will commemorate the arrival of the Irish Famine immigrants of 1847. Approximately 38,000 immigrants arrived between May and October 1847 at a time when the population of Toronto was only 20,000. Over 1,100 of theses immigrants died and are buried in a mass grave at Queen and Power Streets. |
